Multiplayer
Status
Multiplayer is in the game. It arrived on the main branch on December 16, 2025, in the update the publisher called The Gathering; before that it had lived on the public test branch. The publisher's own wording is that it is "still considered in beta as the studio continues to gather player feedback to refine the experience." The game director had said the same thing a month earlier, more bluntly: the mode was not going into a public update because desyncs were more common than the studio wanted, and "we don't think it is good enough yet."
Read that as the current state of a live feature, not as a warning that it is broken. By the time of that same post, the studio was already watching players reach the late game in multiplayer sessions.
How many players
| Platform | Figure | Source type |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Up to 8 online players, PS Plus required for online play; online play is optional; 1 player offline; Remote Play supported | Official — PlayStation Store |
| Xbox Series X|S and PC | Online multiplayer 2–8, with Xbox cross-platform multiplayer; Shared/split screen also listed | Official — Xbox Store |
| PC via Steam | Online PvP is listed as a feature | Official — Steam store page |
| PC player cap in words | Not published | No first-party page states it |
The number to be careful with is the PC one. The PlayStation Store's "up to 8" is a PlayStation Network figure attached to the PS5 edition, and the Xbox Store's "2–8" is attached to the Xbox edition. Neither is a statement about the cap in a lobby of PC players, and no first-party page publishes that. If a source tells you "ENDLESS Legend 2 supports eight players" without saying on which platform, it is quoting one store page about one edition.
How a session works
- Lobbies and faction choice. The publisher's description of The Gathering is: set up lobbies, choose factions, play. That is the level of detail that is officially confirmed.
- Turns are simultaneous. This is a design decision, not a limitation being worked around. The studio has said it will not add a sequential-turn option, because the simultaneous structure is too deeply embedded to change, and it will not add hotseat for the same reason.
- The AI now locks its turn. From the November 2025 update the AI must make its moves and then end its turn, instead of holding moves and reacting to you. Active-player indicators are displayed and are on by default, and can be turned off in the options. If you prefer not to move at the same time as the AI, you can simply wait for it to finish.
- Desyncs happen, and reconnecting clears them. That is the game director's own account from November 2025, and it is why the mode stayed on a test branch for a while longer.
A checklist for setting up a game
- Confirm everyone is on the same edition family you expect — the cross-platform capability is listed for Xbox and PC; the PlayStation listing describes its own online features separately.
- On PS5, have PS Plus active on the accounts that will play online.
- Decide the game speed before the game starts. Game speed options were added in The Gathering and they change mechanics, not just pacing, so a speed chosen casually will change the campaign.
- Agree on whether the AI will be allowed to act at the same time as the human players, since the indicator display is a preference rather than a rule.
- Expect a reconnect at some point, and know that reconnecting is the documented remedy rather than a workaround.
What is not published
- The player cap for a PC-only lobby.
- Whether dedicated servers exist, and how saves are host-managed.
- Whether the beta label will be removed, and when.
These are listed rather than guessed at. As of the check date no first-party statement covers them.
